Yiddish round dance workshop with Mark Kovnatskiy
13. Dec. 2024
The University Library, Ahornstr. 3 in Friedensau, invites you to a workshop on traditional Yiddish round dance on Wednesday, 1 January 2025, 4 pm, as part of the Hanukkah Festival of Lights. The Hamburg composer, musician and teacher of traditional Yiddish dance Mark Kovnatskiy will introduce the topic and inspire the participants for this form of movement. Participation is the order of the day! Mark Kovnatskiy is also regarded as one of the leading interpreters of traditional klezmer music. He performs as a solo violinist and is in demand worldwide as a teacher of Yiddish dance: in the USA, Canada, Western and Eastern Europe, Israel and Japan – and now also in Friedensau.
The workshop is aimed at all age groups; no previous knowledge is required, but comfortable shoes are recommended.
To mark the traditional Jewish festival of Hanukkah, Friedensau University Library will be lighting a light on the stylised Hanukkah candelabra in the library rooms every day at 4 pm from 25 December to 2 January – thus combining the traditional light with the hope for peace.
