Structure and contents

The standard period of study for the master’s programme is 4 semesters. Like the bachelor’s programme, it has a modular structure. Larger thematic areas are grouped together in clear study blocks. Each module contains several courses from various areas of study, from biblical theology, systematics, historical and practical theology, to mission and congregation building. Modules each last one semester or one year of study. They are graded following the guidelines for the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). They are recognized throughout Europe and therefore transferable, and transferring to a study programme abroad is also straightforward.

  • Interpretation of reality and hermeneutics
  • Theology and religious consciousness

  • Foundations of Christian faith

  • Faith and science

For German applicants the prerequisite for the programme is a completed Bachelor of Arts in Theology.
Foreign applicants whose Bachelor of Arts is equivalent to the German degree can in principle expect to be admitted to study at our university. Foreign applicants who have little or no knowledge of German can take a one-year course in German as a foreign language (“Deutsch als Fremdsprache” ) at the Friedensau Adventist University. Applicants must otherwise be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of German, e.g. by successfully passing a test of German as a foreign language (TestDaF-Prüfung) with level-4 results in all 4 areas of performance (4 x TDN 4).

Application packs for admission to a programme of study can be requested from the Admissions Office/International Office. The application for admission should be sent to the Admissions Office or International Office. In addition to the application for admission, the following documents must be submitted in full by the deadline:

  • certified copies of the original certificates showing university and school-leaving qualifications
  • information on how the programme of study will be financed
  • curriculum vitae
  • a photo

(Periods of study should be documented as precisely as possible with relevant evidence, e.g. transcript etc. Please do not send original certificates! The documents remain in the possession of the university. Official translations of all foreign-language documents must be in German, except in the case of English or French documents.)
An application for admission can only be processed by the university when the necessary documentation has been received in full. Hence the admissions procedure can only consider those applications for which the necessary documents have been submitted by the application deadline. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Notice of admission

The applications for admission to study are processed by the Admissions Office/International Office. The decision regarding admission is taken under consideration of the university places available, the level of qualification, and the evidence of funding for the programme. If all necessary prerequisites are fulfilled, the applicant will receive written notification of admission. The confirmation of admission for foreign applicants will only be sent once the deposit has been paid.
