Invitation to the big games evening
22. Oct. 2024
It sounds like adventure and exciting entertainment: ‘Abraham's Game’ and ‘Deliverance’ are the two games that game master Johannes Fähndrich is bringing to Friedensau for this year's game night. The Friedensau Adventist University Library team cordially invites you to play together on Thursday, 31 October 2024, from 6 pm to 10 pm. Admission is free.
Pastor Johannes Fähndrich (Magdeburg), who is coming to Friedensau for the fourth time with a selection of Christian games, is himself a ‘passionate gamer’ and game author. He will accompany the players: ‘Six well-preserved copies of the game “Abraham's Game” were found in Ur in Chaldea. It was already being played there 4,000 years ago, in Abraham's time; it was widespread throughout the Orient for 3,000 years. We can safely assume that Abraham knew and played it! It is quick to learn and exciting right up to the last move. A copy with mother-of-pearl inlays is on display in the British Museum in London - with instructions in cuneiform script!
Abraham's Game' is the perfect way to organise themed evenings: a tournament based on the 1-2 knockout system, combined with information about the life and beliefs of Abraham. He was not just a nomad who travelled through the steppe and sat around the campfire, but a prince from an advanced civilisation with a developed writing system and ruler over more than 300 servants. When he listened to God's voice, he became the father of three world religions.
The two games cover a broad spectrum, so that fans of very simple and very complex games will get their money's worth. What's more, ‘Abraham's Game’ is international and ‘Deliverance’ is in English.’ This means that English-speaking players - students and teachers alike – can take part without any language barrier. Perhaps this evening is an opportunity to get to know each other even better?
Children aged 10 and over can take part; there is no age limit for young people and adults. Participation is free of charge. Pre-registration is requested by calling 03921 916–135 or .
