Exhibition ‘Daring! 500 years of the Anabaptist movement 1525–2025’
04. Apr. 2025
In April 2025, the Friedensau University Library, Ahornstr. 3, 39291 Möckern-Friedensau, will be showing the exhibition ‘Daring! 500 years of the Anabaptist movement 1525–2025’. It will be bilingual: in German from 11 to 23 April 2025 and in English from 1 April to 30 June 2025. The exhibition can be viewed during the library's opening hours. These are: Sunday to Thursday 8 am to 10 pm, Friday 8 am to 4 pm; closed on Saturdays.
In 2025, the Anabaptist movement celebrates its 500th anniversary. It originated in Zurich in 1525, when a group that originally belonged to the circle of friends of Swiss reformer Huldrych Zwingli practised confessional baptism, emphasising a clear separation of church and state. Some free churches that still practise this baptism today see themselves in this tradition. To mark the occasion, Friedensau University Library has brought a travelling exhibition to Friedensau and is showing it in German and English with a time delay.
An introductory lecture with church historian Dr Johannes Hartlapp will take place on Friday, 4 April 2025, 4 pm, in the library. This lecture also marks the start of the ‘Night of the Libraries’, which takes place on 4 April and includes other events – such as Shabbat Shalom, a lecture ‘I want to sing and play God’ and gospel games with Johannes Fähndrich – until shortly before midnight. Admission is free. Interested parties are very welcome.
