Inauguration of the new arena

30. Sep. 2019

On September 29, 2019, the new arena on the Friedensau campgrounds was inaugurated with a huge celebration. Before Sabine Schorcht (campground manager), Rüdiger Schröter (local mayor), and Johannes Näther (President of the North German Union Conference of the SDA Church) cut the red ribbon, a Kettcar race took place. The participants of the three-part relay trip took a winding route from the event barn via Ahornstraße to the arena. The relay team with the Administrative Head of the District Dr. Steffen Burchhardt, theology student Lara Isecke, and pupil Joel Cervantes won the Kettcar race. From 7 pm, the visitors could attend the concert night with Samuel Rösch and PaperClip (Erzgebirgskreis) and later on with the Christian band Koenige & Priester (Cologne).

The new arena in Friedensau provides room for about 1,400 guests and is ideal for pathfinder and church events. The arena is the replacement construction for the mobile tent, which was on the same site for about ten years and could no longer be used due to various building regulations. The tent shape takes up the architectural history of the site, where the SDA Church had annual tent assemblies since 1900, with a huge assembly tent for about 1,000 people and many little tents for accommodation. The architectural office Mayer-Winderlich | Martinez (Potsdam) designed the new arena and accompanied the construction.
