Cooperation between FAU and the Indonesian Tanjungpura University

On 17 January 2025, representatives of the School of Social Sciences of Friedensau Adventist University (FAU) in Pontianak (Indonesia) signed a cooperation agreement with Tanjungpura University, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP). Both universities are thus expanding their international cooperation network. The agreement was sealed with the signing of a „Memorandum of Understanding“ (MoU) and a public lecture. Representatives of the schools, teaching staff and students from various study programmes took part in the event.

In addition to Prof Ulrike Schultz and Dr Kwaku Arhin-Sam from the FAU, representatives from the Indonesian university were also present, such as Akhmad Rifky Setya Anugrah (S.IP., M.Sc.). The Dean of FISIP Untan, Dr Herlan (M.Si.), expressed his hope that this collaboration could bring real benefits to both sides: ‘We hope that FISIP can enter into a meaningful collaboration and build a more focused cooperation. This is an important step on FISIP's path to internationalisation. Last year, we already collaborated with the FAU in a colloquium attended by FISIP lecturers and researchers from various countries, including Tanzania.’

The MoU was signed by the Vice-Rector of Untan, Prof. Dr rer. nat. Rustamadji (M.T., I.P.U.), together with Prof. Dr rer. pol. Ulrike Schultz and Dr Kwaku Arhin-Sam, the representatives of Friedensau Adventist University. The Head of the International Affairs Office of Untan and the Dean of FISIP Untan were also present. The cooperation covers a number of strategic areas such as the development of academic programmes, joint research, the exchange of students and lecturers and the organisation of international conferences.

After the signing of the MoU, the event continued with an public lecture by Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Ulrike Schultz entitled: ‘Resisting Labelling: Self-Categorisation of People on the Move in the Sudans’. Prof Schultz presented the results of her 35 years of research work in Africa, in particular with regard to the social dynamics in Sudan.

The representatives of both educational institutions used the afternoon for in-depth discussions. They discussed the cooperation programme, which is to be implemented quickly. One of the priority projects is the internship programme for students of Friedensau Adventist University at Tanjungpura University Untan in Pontianak.
