When Friedensau is on the road ...
When someone goes on a journey, they have a story to tell. And so let us take you on the journey of Friedensau students, teachers, and staff who visited various Adventist churches in Frankfurt and the surrounding area on January 27, 2024 with "Friedensau on the road": central Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Unterliederbach, Hanau, the English-speaking church in Langen, Mühlheim, Oberursel, Bad Homburg, Friedberg and Dreieichenhain. "Friedensau on the road" has a long tradition and is popular with hosts and guests alike.
Fellow travelers from Friedensau reflect on their impressions
Nine churches were visited this time; nine teachers preached in the churches: Roland Fischer, Rolf Pöhler, Alexander Schulze, Stefan Höschele, László Szabó, Kerstin Maiwald, Igor Lorencin and the two new colleagues Martin Klingbeil and Goran Živković. For lecturer Igor Lorencin, who teaches New Testament at the FAU, "Friedensau on the road" is an institution: "Friedensau on the road gives us additional insight into the life of the local communities - and in return, the communities gain insight into teaching, research, and everyday life at the university."
Goran Živković, lecturer in Old Testament, adds in retrospect: "This was my first experience with 'Friedensau on the road', and I am really impressed. It was a great opportunity for us colleagues to share our enthusiasm for Friedensau, the place of Adventist education.
Theology student Marek Kaba views the trip from a student perspective: "It was a very important experience that I was able to have in the Friedberg Adventist Church. I come from Slovakia, and I experience every visit to a German Adventist church differently. I had the opportunity to talk about my reasons for taking up theology studies – which is a very unique story for everyone."
Lecturer Dr. Kerstin Maiwald, head of the B.A. Theology course, experienced "Friedensau on the road" like this: "Eugen Mayer (Fundraising) and I visited the Adventist church in Bad Homburg in the morning. Getting to know this congregation and being welcomed so warmly was particularly valuable for us. For me, openness and authenticity are very important for an honest exchange. And so I was delighted that the follow-up discussion about my sermon, the university, and our church was very genuine, lively, and therefore mutually enriching. Blessing this wonderful and warm-hearted congregation at the end of the service touched me deeply. We have a lot in common: our students are very close to our hearts, and the congregation told us that they too will pray for them to pass their Hebrew exam ..."
In the afternoon, it was time for "Friedensau meets Frankfurt"
New conversation partners are found over a relaxing potluck. In the afternoon, the two professors Martin Klingbeil and Stefan Höschele gave insight into the project and research work of the university under the motto "University meets community", framed by musical contributions, reports from the students, and a Friedensau quiz. Thank you to everyone involved in the preparation and realization of this special and blessed Sabbath. We look forward to the next opportunity to experience "Friedensau on the road” (Text: Andrea Cramer).
