History and stories – 125 years of Friedensau
25. Jan. 2024 / Campus Living / Events
125 years of Friedensau – how did it all begin? When did the first school year start, who was among the first students? There was a certain X.Y. who came to Friedensau in November 1899. He travelled by train to Pabsdorf and then walked the rest of the way. When he arrived in Friedensau, after some searching, he found his future teachers in the stable, where they were mucking out and interpreting the Revelation.
Friedensau story(ies)
History becomes visible and vivid through episodes, events and stories. Who was this student and how did his story and the story of Friedensau Missionary School continue? In the course of this anniversary year 2024, we will look at history and stories in a chronicle and exhibition, with pictures and films.
A new beginning in 1947
Friedensau's history has taken place in various contexts and has survived two world wars, among other things. How and when did things continue after the Second World War? The Friedensau Missionary School was the first church educational institution in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) to resume operations in 1947. There was a certain N.N. who was able to influence the new beginning of Friedensau due to his good contacts with a high-ranking person in the Soviet military administration. Who was this man and what contacts did he have? There are still contemporary witnesses from those early years who can tell the story and have become a part of history themselves.
State recognition since 1990
How did Friedensau Adventist University become the educational institution we know today? There was this decision by the last government of the GDR in 1990, which brought state recognition and made further developments possible. Who was involved and how did this come about? How did the story continue?
Looking to the future with gratitude
This year, we would like to look at and celebrate the history of Friedensau, discuss current challenges and continue to shape the future. We do this with gratitude for God's guidance so far and with trust in his future blessing.
