Graduation ceremony in Friedensau
30. Nov. 2023 / Campus Living / Learning & Studying
One of the most enjoyable celebrations in Friedensau is the graduation ceremony that takes place in autumn. Yes, it's true that the beginning of studies is also accompanied by excitement, curiosity and energy about all the new things in student life – but it is yet surpassed by the joy and happiness of the graduates when they receive their Bachelor's or Master's certificates.
Start of studies with enrolment on 9 October
But let's take a look back at the "festive week": 37 students – in the photo with the 1Year4Jesus participants of the year – have decided to study at Friedensau. They are starting a degree in theology or a Master's degree in Music Therapy, Counselling or the English-language Development Studies program. We wish all new students, as well as those who are continuing their studies, God's blessing.
Church service and concert to mark the start of the academic year
Rector Roland Fischer preached the sermon in the church service on Sabbath, 14 October, on the topic of "Knowledge and Wisdom" and applied it to the example of Apollos in Acts 18. In the afternoon, there was a concert with the Trio Kontur, which performed Bach's Goldberg Variations as well as pieces by Franz Schubert, Gideon Klein and Zoltán Kodály. The audience was thrilled!
The graduation ceremony with award ceremony
On Sunday, 15 October, the 36 graduates took centre stage. Many had travelled from far away – after all, most of them are already working in different areas: in companies or social institutions throughout Germany, at hotspots in refugee aid or in their respective home countries. Family and friends from further away also attended this anniversary celebration. Georg Remmert, director of the AWW retirement homes in Friedensau and Berlin-Steglitz, gave the keynote speech. Two prizes were awarded: The DAAD prize for outstanding achievements by foreign students went to Moyo Olamide Agbojo; the prize from the "Freundeskreis Friedensau International" e.V. support association went to Daniel Agyenim-Boateng. Both are studying International Social Sciences (Development Studies).
